THE CHALLENGE

Transforming and upcycling scrap leather from California Lacing’s leather factory production into luxurious sandals was the project at hand. Each sandal pair was designed with simple lines and colors, and with the purpose to prevent the extraneous leather from ending up in a landfill.

Upcycling transforms discarded products and renews them, thus changing that same product into something new and even of higher quality. Upcycling is a sustainable and eco-conscious means of manufacturing and has a positive impact on the environment. It requires much less energy than recycling. It saves natural resources and reduces greenhouse gas emissions in the process.

These sandals captured the ethos of sustainable manufacturing with the chic design of contemporary footwear.
