THE CHALLENGE

The iconic 115+ year old Red Wing Shoe company requested that a leather shoe lace be developed that matches the quality of their footwear, both in color and strength, when manufactured within the USA in bulk.

The United States has many tanneries which still remain and but only a few produce vegetable tan leathers which have the capabilities to match this type of end use and product’s quality requirements.

The journey of this product development started with visiting on-site to the Wisconsin based tannery. Temescal Creative worked hand-in-hand with the tannery’s development team to sample their hides’ production ensuring that both the exterior and interior color finish were correct and met all strength test requirements

The final production, which still is in motion, uses the best quality leathers and every step in this process is still USA made.
